Moving right along….Welcome 2014! Our first trip of the new year.
The weekend weather forecast looked great so we packed our Bambi for a weekend adventure at Cape Lookout State Park near Tillamook. If you’re ever wanting a beautiful and diverse campground along the Oregon Coast, this is definitely one you’ll want to consider! We LOVE it here.
Although this is a very busy campground during the summer, it is nearly empty every time we’ve visited during the winter. The RV sites are rather close together and only one loop is open during the off season. We wanted a bit more privacy so we opted to camp in a more primitive tent site near the ocean. It was perfect. We nearly had the place to ourselves. The tent sites are wide open to let in lots of sun, but there’s some nice shrubbery between the sites to allow for a little privacy.
The yurts here are very nice as well, and to my knowledge this is one of the only state parks that offer “luxury” cabins.
Wow, this looks wonderful! We just purchased a used Bambi and hope to start using it shortly. We are waiting for it to warm up a bit before we head out. We just had 7 inches of snow in Bellingham.

Congratulations…Hope you love yours as much as we have! We haven’t taken ours out in the snow yet either as it makes me nervous do drive with it on slick roads. We had snow two weeks ago and canceled a weekend trip we had planned. Enjoy it on the off season though…it’s such a treat to have the state parks to yourselves in the winter 🙂

Hello! Enjoying your blog! We will be in Oregon in October to pick up our new (to us) 19 foot flying cloud. BEYOND excited. Since we’ll be up there (live in Park City, Utah), going to do our maiden trip on the coast. I have been researching where to stay, and all the state parks look amazing–it’s hard to choose! Anyway, in this post, you mentioned that you opted for a tent site rather than an RV site. If the trailer fits…are you allowed to use a tent site? Or was it because you had the place to yourself? I can do without hookups if it means a beautiful site like you had. Also, is this option available in all the Oregon parks, as long as the trailer fits? And lastly…can we expect it to be fairly uncrowded from Monday-Wednesday October 10/19-21? Or should we choose a place and make reservations to be safe. THANKS for your comments. You can direct email me if you would prefer.
