One of my goals this summer was to try to catch up on my blog. We’ve had a busy start to the season as our son graduated from Oregon State. He accepted a job in Boise, so we helped him pick up and move by driving the U-Haul for him. We are finally settling down into a slower summer routine which I am very much looking forward to.
So, going back in time, my goal is to highlight some fun weekend adventures over the past year. I’ll start with a New Year adventure in Florence, Oregon.
This is a part of the state we haven’t visited often. It’s a three-hour drive from our home in Portland – just a bit too far to drive for the weekend. We decided to head out for a little exploring since I had time off for Christmas vacation. The weather was predicted to be cold, but sunny. We didn’t have reservations but felt confident that we’d find something since it was the off-season. We were prepared to dry camp if needed. Luckily, we stumbled upon this jewel of a campground. Some of the sites back right up to the private beach. The view was spectacular!
The beach here is private which meant that we were the only people out wandering around the majority of the time. The variety of agates that we found were incredible. We had purchased a rock tumbler for one of our kids when they were younger and we’ve spent a lot of time on beach trips, combing for the perfect rocks. We’ve never seen the size of variety of agates that we found at this little beach!
There’re so many places to explore nearby. The Heceta Lighthouse is a fun hike and great way to spend the afternoon. The little town of Yachtas is also fun and had some of the best pizza we’ve ever had.
Woke up our last morning to freezing temperatures and frost and ended up having to leave a day early as we knew the mountain passes were going to get slippery. We made it home just before a huge snow storm (by Oregon standards!)
Looking forward to a return trip this winter!

Great to hear from you again! Have learned to love hearing about you adventures and seeing the beautiful photos that you include. When you sell you Airstream, what are your plans?

Hi Tim – If ours sells, we’re going to get the 28′ Airstream with a dedicated table area. Todd works a lot while we’re traveling and the other set-up makes more sense for us. Not loving the thought of pulling and parking a 28 though. The 25′ was kind of a perfect size. Do you still have your Bambi?

Love your photographs! Always look forward to reading about your adventures! We too started with a 16’ Bambi..then went to the 25’ Flying Cloud, (twins in front) in 2012. Love the windows and extra space now…even though there’s a little more to tow. 😉

We made the same move as you! I love the 25′ and have been really hesitant to change. We put ours on the market to see about selling, but won’t be terribly upset if we don’t. There’s pros and cons for every size!

Wow! Some beautiful pictures! The small rocks photo on the right was cool. The Motel with the nice view out the windows looks wonderful. And what’s the name of the pizza-place? That looks good, too.

I’m so happy to have found your blog. We just purchased a 16’ Bambi International, and living in Boise, we’re anxious to explore the Pacific Northwest. I’m a breast cancer survivor as well and getting on with life! May I ask about your awnings? Where were they purchased/installed? Thank you.
