A quick weekend trip close to home…with a generator this time, just in case.

You read mixed reviews of this campground online, but that’s fine with us. We like it here. No water, no reservations, typically means no crowds. This weekend however, I think it was nearly full. We got there early enough in the day to get a nice spot, but not without a few moments of panic. I’ve mentioned before that one of our biggest concerns about switching to a 25ft trailer was the inability to fit into small federal campgrounds…and that almost happened here.

We visit here a lot and we knew that there were many large sites that should accommodate our trailer with no problem. What we hadn’t anticipated was the narrow lined roads with large rocks and shrubs that made turning into those large spots very challenging. I just noticed this morning when looking on the forest service page that trailers over 22ft are not recommended for this site. Now I understand why! These old campgrounds were designed during a time when trailers and tow vehicles were typically much smaller. Well,  now we know of at least one site here, that with a little clever maneuvering will work 🙂

A very unique landscape for Mt. Hood as it's basically an old flood plain along the Sandy River.

Moss covered limbs…this is a campground where they actually want you to collect wood for fires.

Love the variety of colors on the forest floor. This is a clean campground with very little dirt.

An evening walk down to the fast moving river. You can't see it through the trees but you can certainly hear it at night!
